NEW YORK FASHION WEEK A/W 2014 DAY 4

Some highlights from Day 4 of New York Fashion Week.

The sporty urban vibe that is commonly seen from collections by DKNY is back this season. The coats in this collection really worked well for the new Autumn/Winter season and really kept the urban edge to the collection. The coats featured work well with the pieces they were shown with with some acting as a two piece addition, such as the dog tooth design used for the skirt piece and jacket (pictured above, second from right). I really enjoyed the mix of textures within this collection as well. The leather dress mixed with the varsity jacket kept a urban edge to these pieces. Overall, this collection delivered on many levels. It provided a more casual look for the new season compared to other designers showcased this week so far.

The dresses featured at Lela Rose was beautiful. The gold foiled detailing on the white and cream pieces added another dimension that really brought to the design and created something that pretty and feminine. Mixed in with the more formal and elegant dresses, were jackets. These looked casual yet sophisticated in and contrasted nicely with the evening wear shown. One of the stand out pieces was a full length magenta gown featuring a sweet heart neckline. The skirt was kept full and the colour was stunning. The mix of fabrics throughout the collection provided variety but all worked together to create a well rounded and versatile collection.

Vivienne Tam produced a collection that was uniquely patterned and definitely eye catching. Patterns were a key part of this showcase, which ranged in design. The high necks on many of the pieces elongated the shapes of the designs. The silhouette of the shapes were kept basic for most, with higher empire waists on many. The attention to the detail from the designer really helped to add to this collection. On a few of the outfits the attention was in the tights where they matched the designs of the skirts they were shown with.
One of my favorite piece from this collection was a thick, heavy jacket which was over sized and cinched in at the waist with a small thin belt (above, far left). A great collection from a designer I have previously unheard of caught my attention and kept me captivated until the final model walked down the catwalk.

Smart, classy and simplistic would be the words that I was use to describe Victoria Beckham's latest collection. It was a monochrome based affair with only a couple of pieces featuring a splash of colour. The collection worked well in this monochrome fashion and kept the sophisticated edge to these pieces. The pieces had a tailored edge to them but with an over sized finish which we have seen from previous collections. Overall, I really liked this collection from Victoria Beckham. The designs are classy and shaped well. The monochrome style is timeless and tied in with some of the staple pieces, such as the jackets, it creates a lasting Autumn/Winter collection.

Where to begin with this collection by Diane Von Furstenberg? First off I was really impressed by the variety of pieces that were on offer. The overall feel was sophisticated and elegant. The cuts of many of the designs were kept shapeless with no waist to the clothing. I also loved the mix of more tailored trousers mixed in with the glamorous dresses. There were a mix of patterns within the collection ranging from roses to knotted designs. This collection really caught my eye and showcased a great collection of work from Diane Von Furstenberg. It final selection of gold dresses were stunning and look amazing as the lights from the catwalk caught the designs.

Summary
Day 4 brought about collections from big designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg and Victoria Beckham , they certainly didn't disappoint. Similar colours are being featured again, so it will be interesting to see what the rest of this week brings. This will then allow us a glimpse into the potential trends that could start to emerge for the new season.

  1. I'm loving these posts that you're doing on Fashion Week, not to sound too lazy but it's definitely more convenient for me as I'm unsure where to look for easy to view compilations like this!
