Some highlights from Day 2 of New York Fashion Week.
Sally LaPointe showcased some classic shapes and simple sihouettes mixed in with different cuts to create some more unique pieces in the collection. The coats hit around knee length and had a boyfriend fit to them. The styles were classic and elegant with tailoring playing a key role in many of the outfits. From the tailored trousers to the artfully crafted jackets this was a collection looked basic on the surface but the details were definitely present.
Rebecca Minkoff showcased a collection that was something a bit different to others we have previously seen in the past. I loved the mix of colours with there being deep reds as well as richer green tones. The base piece were kept nude and more simple allowing the over laying pieces to stand out more. The cuts were kept quite minimalistic and simple which complemented the overall look and feel of the collection. The collection as a whole really caught my eye due to the interesting mix of colours and the simplistic and elegants shapes. I've only really know Rebecca Minkoff due to their handbag designs, but now I've now got y eye on their clothing collections as well.
Tanya Taylor created a collection that was something a bit different to the other collections shown on this day. My initial feeling with this collection was that it seemed a lot more suited to the Spring/Summer season. The use of brighter colours and florals contrasted to what we have seen so far this fashion week. The collection consisted of dresses in a very similar style; of high necklines and hitting mid thigh. The dresses cinched in at the waist and the went out from there. The mix of metallic materials was interesting as well, but I think they were used in a way that really supported the collection and offered something different.
Rag & Bone's collection showed some of my favourite pieces from the day. I really liked the more basic colour palette that has been created with the mix of dark blues, navys and greys. It was a more tailored collection that had been created, with there being a variety of more structured jackets and coats on the show. A variety of patterns were also on offer with an interesting paint-splattered effect across a few of the pieces (above far left and far right). One of my favourite outfits contained a deep burgundy top with a nude cream coloured top underneath (above, far right). The combination of colours and textured worked really well to create an easy wearable outfit perfect for the Fall months.
Nonoo is another brand that I had previously not heard of before this Fashion Week began. I really liked the artistic patterns that have been created and the pops of colour helped to to brighten up the collection. I liked that only a few pieces were more block coloured, whilst many had either a different pattern or texture within the outfits. Some of the pieces contained interesting cut out details that really added something extra to the designs. One of the stand out pieces from this collection was a basic jacket with tie waist and square cut out towards the hem (above, far left). The fabric chosen worked very well with the cut out pattern, which added an edge to the overall piece. The tied belt waist helped to create shape to the jacket whist adding a more comfortable and casual edge to it.
Summary
Day 2 brought another strong amount of collections. Many collcetions contained hte deep burgandy colour that we also witnessed at some of the shows yesterday. Long tailored jackets and coats were also another staple that has been seen across both of the days so far in New York.
